How to Install Custom Recovery for Alcatel One Touch Glory 918N

Today at Hyperion Online, we will tackle how to install a custom recovery for Alcatel One Touch Glory 918n, this is a new entry level phone that sports a great screen display and specs is almost on par with Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360. For those who are new to customizing their android phone, a custom recovery is basically a recovery software wherein it lets you; factory data reset your phone, partition your sd-card, install firmware updates, and much more, if you are familiar with Windows Recovery software, it almost work the same thing. for more information about custom recovery, you may refer to this article from phonedog.com.

Why do we need to install this custom recovery?

Basically this is a requirement in order for you to safely root your phone without any issues, if you will follow the instructions below carefully, you shoudn't experience any problems at all. If worse case scenario happen, feel free to contact us for options, or you may post a comment as well, we also recommend to checked the original thread.

Furthermore, for those who are new to android, learn more about root here, please bear in mind rooting your phone would result to loss of warranty.

Requirements:
  • Gingerbread Version 2.3.6
  • Phone is fully charged
  • For convenience, we compiled all necessary files involved on this process, you may download the files here. (kindly extract all the files on its own corresponding folder for easy access).
1. Install Android USB Driver. Download Links: (Windows XP, Vista, 7 - 32bit) | (Windows Vista, 7 - 62bit)
2. Turn off your phone. Then connect your phone via usb data cable.

[ a ] Then an unknown device will appear instantly, it will disappear and then it will reappear. Right click on it and choose to update driver manually. Now locate the folder where your Android MT65xx PreLoader is (extract files: MTK65xx_PL-2303_XP, vista y win 7). Then press OK / Next. If prompt, choose “INSTALL DRIVER ANYWAY” OR
[ b ] Find new software mt65xx preloader. Then choose install the software from a list. Now locate the folder where your Android MT65xx PreLoader is.

NOTE: If nothing happens after plugging then boot to recovery by PRESSING HOLD POWER + VOL UP Button then please check your notification area on your desktop then follow either [a] or above.

- Done. Now disconnect your phone from the computer. And make it sure that your phone is turned off before proceeding to step 3..

3. Extract downloaded files to one folder for easy access of the files. Open SP Flash Tool. Then choose scatter loading. See image below.


4. Look and find the scatter text file and open it. See image below.


 5. Ignore and tick OK. See image below.


6. Check the box with the name "Recovery". Then look for the downloaded recovery file. And open it. See image below.


 7. Tick Option from the menu and check USB Mode. See image below.


8. Tick the Download button. Note: Look at the image carefully before ticking the download button. Make it sure nothing else is checked. See image below.


9. Plug your cellphone via your usb cable. Then wait for it to be finish. See image below.


 *** NOTE: If your phone isn’t detected after plugging then boot to recovery by PRESSING + HOLD POWER + VOL UP Button THEN go back to step 2. ****

10. A yellow bar will appear. Wait for it to reach 100%. See image below.


11. Done. Congratulations. You successfully installed a "CUSTOM RECOVERY". See image below.


12. Now it's time to root your phone by following the next tutorial "How to Root Alcatel One Touch 918N".

    1. Hi Maia, its possible that you already installed the USB driver of your phone, hence you're not getting that message, but if not, it might be a possible settings on your PC wherein auto detect is disabled, just install the driver accordingly if that's the case.

  2. ive done everything but im stock at step 9 then a certain window pops up saying android cannot find usb port

    my device is off when plugged helped me shun thanks

    1. it looks like the driver is not properly installed for your Android phone, kindly re-install the driver and make sure your computer is able to detect your phone while mounted. Hope it helps.
